ORTHODOX CHURCH

ABOUT US
Holy Comforter is a Western Orthodox parish in the Archdiocese of New York of the Holy Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church of America. Here, the ancient faith is celebrated in the beauty of Orthodox worship, drawing us together as a community of prayer, love, and service.
ABOUT THE CATHEDRAL
Built in 1860, Holy Comforter Cathedral is a Gothic Revival church designed by the renowned architect Richard Upjohn. Constructed of local Ulster County bluestone with New Jersey brownstone trim, the church is a landmark in Poughkeepsie, its steeple rising prominently above the Hudson River. Inside, the original pews and vaulted wooden ceiling remain, preserving the beauty and craftsmanship of its earliest days.
In 1972, the cathedral was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as part of the Mill Street–North Clover Street Historic District.
Today, Holy Comforter Cathedral is an Orthodox parish of the Archdiocese of New York within the Holy Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church of America. Rooted in the ancient faith, we worship in the Western Rite and serve Poughkeepsie and the Hudson Valley through prayer, the sacraments, and the life of the Church.
